Broadhurst pleased with his play at Chubb
Englishman Paul Broadhurst had a banner year in 2018, winning three times, including a major championship (KitchenAid Senior PGA), but he has not won since. He certainly did not see signs of any good play imminent after he started the season tying for 33rd place in Hawaii.
He flew home, and his usual teacher was on holiday, so Broadhurst asked his son, Sam, to take a look at his swing to give him some suggestions. Apparently, they found something. Broadhurst played nicely on Saturday, shooting. 6-under 66, a round that was bettered only by tournament leader Stephen Ames. He is currently tied for third place at 9-under 135.
“Yeah, I guess it was a little bit of a surprise coming into this week,” Broadhurst said on Saturday. “You’re never sure. Working on something that doesn’t quite feel ‘me,’ and so, yeah, it’s a funny game, this.
“Sometimes you go into a tournament expecting nothing and play well. Other times, you go in feeling like you’re playing great and you do nothing, finishing 50th. You never know what to expect.”
